Our eyes are highly attuned where we walk, and anything out of the ordinary will automatically trigger us into paying more attention.

I like the idea of turning utility space into promotional tools.

The only word of warning I would make is: Keep it humorous and entertaining or you risk annoying people with blatant commercialization of public spaces.
