Designs on Toast, Is it a new idea out of control, or just a geeky fad?
It’s all a bit embarrassing really, It’s just one of those Googleings that got right out of control…
It all started recently when I came across an idea that I thought was “SORTA CUTE” and with a bit of thought could be developed into an interesting little, customer service, value add ons, for one of my hotel owner customers.
So I posted a question on the excellent food forums at foodservice.com and these are some pics I have both found and been sent so far.
I have linked each pic to it’s source of additional information.
This was what started my quest, it’s a students prototype not a real product. Apparently the idea was that you put in the bread, then using the stylus, you write a message on the panel on the top, and hey presto, the message is magically toasted onto the bread ! Great Idea I thought… and off I went in search of ways it could be done.

Then I found this little gem…

Then this… which is apparently sold at Target
Then these two ultra techno versions

And this manual version for the more spiritual amongst us, it is called “THE HOLY TOAST”

Then I discovered that Michael Angelo himself may have been the original inventor
(this one is apparently on display at one of the Ripley Museums but I have no link, sorry)

And, of course, what art movement would be complete without the King Himself making an appearance… ?
Oh Crumbs! Ive had enough of all this now, I’m off to study Neo Classical Radishes and Pre Raphaelite Potatoes next…
