Ghetto Gourmet Concept Spreads

Ghetto Gourmets are groups of people who get together, hire or appoint a chef for the evening, go to some crazy location, and enjoy a dinner together.

I first heard of the concept about two years ago and thought, Yeah, right, so…? Isn’t it just a neighborhood B.B.Q. with a chef.

But, this new dinningĀ  trend seems to be catching on, all around the world.

It appears, the unconventional nature of meeting new people and going to constantly changing, and often strange locations is highly desired.

The photo above shows a group meeting in a central city car park.

Actually, I must admit, having now Googled the concept, and seen the fun that some of these groups are having, I can now understand why this concept is growing and spreading.

Hi — thanks for using my picture. You’ve got the location of the photo wrong — it’s in a backyard that we called a parking lot in Oakland, CA.

Feel free to email with any questions — I organize events in the SF Bay Area in coordination with Jeremy Townsend, the founder.
