How Do You Get Your Business Message Out There On The Web

Published by Lindsay at 11:46 am under Advertising, NEW CUSTOMER IDEAS, EDITORIAL COMMENTS

After my last post, Shane, of Shane and Peter fame, posted a comment which asks: “How do you create props that expand your sphere of influence on the net”.

First, I thought, this guy is trying to be a smarty, he’s trying to catch me out, then, whilst taking the dog for his morning “posting” I got to thinking about his question, and I realized it was a damn good question (plus, I know he is a friend of Naomi Dunford, of Itty Biz fame , so he couldn’t be all bad)

SO, WHAT DO YOU DO TO PROMOTE YOUR PRESENCE ON THE NET?

Or, to be more specific to Shane question, What Props can you create to promote your blog or website?

Well I guess Shane doesn’t need any gratuitous advice from me about creating ebooks and newsletters, after all Shane and Peter have an excellent site with originally conceived content, they have a voice, and it’s unique and interesting.

But I guess, like all of us attempting to play this global “pick me, pick me” game through the clutter of this massive digital menagerie, they want more traffic. Not not the Stumble upon or Digg swarms, looking for their daily dose of salacious eye candy, but real traffic, the stuff that truly understands and appreciates what you have to offer.

The more I thought about this the more I realized what a great question Shane had posed… and the more I realized the amount of work I should be doing to achieve that same result.

So, rather than tell Shane what he should do, after all , after looking at his blog I think maybe I should be asking him, so I am going to tell you what tools and props I am going to create to extend my sphere of influence.

I have an ebook on creating signs, it’s a bit of a fun read and I get lots of downloads and comments about it. I am going to send an email to all the business coaching and small business advisory companies I can find, offering them a custom version of it. This way, they will send it to all their customers and both them and I will get some traffic building publicity.

I am going to create some short, animated, humorous, VIDEO clips.

These VIDEO clips will explain exactly how to do all sorts of promotional stuff, again, I will email links of these to companies that currently have newsletter lists of existing customers that I am attempting to target.

This way, they are seen to provide their customers with a benefit, and I get a “free kick” of publicity.

Then, I will take a good look over all the bloggers who are currently speaking to large numbers of my target readers, to work out what I can send them that will build traffic for both of us.

It might be a text article with a clever illustration, a photo, a VIDEO clip, an ebook, whatever… the prime consideration will be that it suits their needs first and is of a unique enough quality to entice their readers over to my site to see more.

I am going to set up a photo news section on my site and post pics of readers, bloggers, and people who do me favors, after all who can resist a site that has a photo of them on it… Send me a photo Shane, in fact one of you and one of Peter, at least I will get two new readers.

Shane , thanks for the question, I apologize for first thinking bad of you, however, I’m sure you will get over it. By the way, you are now going to be at the top of my list to send my props to, and of course, look forward to receiving like, from you.

hahah .. Lindsay - you rock. I really like the idea of marking your ebook rebrandable by the distributor. You control the content and within it will be links back to you, so if done appropriately, its a total win win. Frankly a brilliant plan.

I like your photos idea quite a bit too. I will absolutely send you one.

I await future business props with significant curiosity!

Btw - peter really liked the video.
